Solar Energy Investment at Bornova Factory — 450 Tons of Annual CO₂ Savings

Printer Ofset completed a 1.2 MWp solar energy installation at its Bornova Çamdibi production complex in September 2025. The 2,400 photovoltaic panels mounted on the factory roof generate electricity covering approximately 45% of the facility's consumption.

Measurable environmental impact:

  • Annual 450 tons of CO₂ emission reduction (~equivalent to what 22,000 trees absorb in a year)
  • Annual 1.8 million kWh renewable electricity generation
  • Target 38% reduction in facility carbon footprint
  • Projected ~11,250 tons of CO₂ total savings over the 25-year system lifetime

This investment is an important step in Printer Ofset's sustainability journey that began with FSC Chain of Custody certification in 2024. It addresses the "carbon-neutral production" criteria increasingly demanded by EU-exporting corporate brands under the phased-in PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) across 2025-2030.

"Our clients — particularly EU-exporting corporate brands — now want more than just quality from their print suppliers; they want sustainability reports too," says Printer Ofset management. "The solar energy investment meets both this commercial need and lowers our operational costs long-term."

Next step: converting the Bornova facility's heating + ventilation systems to heat pump technology — 2027 target.
